Chris, until 1918, DOBROMIL was located in AUSTRIA, and to be precise, in what was from 1772 until 1918 the Austrian province called GALICIA, the capital of which was the city called in German LEMBERG, in Polish LWÓW, in Russian LVOV, and today in Ukrainian LVIV. Following World War I, Galicia once again became part of an independent Poland. Following World War II, Galicia was divided, Stalin having decided to keep eastern Galicia for the Soviet Union (as he decided to keep all of eastern Poland for the Soviet Union). Today, western Galicia remains part of Poland, whereas eastern Galicia is part of today's Ukraine. Dobromil (Dobromyl) is located today just the Ukrainian side of today's Polish-Ukrainian border. Here is the link to a website devoted to eastern Galician Polish genealogy. On the homepage, click on "Repatriation and Resettlement of Ethnic Poles". That portion of the website should prove very useful to you: http://www.halgal.com/ And here is the link to webpage that gives some information about Galicia in general: http://www.polishroots.org/genpoland/gal.htm Robert Notify Administrator about this message?
