Hi Pat -

This is nothing new - not to know birth place.
Those were different times.
Maybe family moved few times in Poland,then emigrated to USA when he was a baby.
Babies don`t care to know where they were born nor children.
Maybe his Parents died and he never asked them about his birth place,maybe he did`t want to say where he was born.
There could be many reasons.
