There is a lot of information available on the Poindexters of Virginia. There is a book, POINGDESTRE: A NORMAN FAMILY. There are copies of this book available on the internet and some libraries have copies. If you have access to a library with information by county in Virginia, the Poindexters were very prominent in Louisa County and to a lesser extent in other counties. If you can trace your Poindexter ancestry back to before the late nineteenth century, you are probably descended from George Poindexter who came to this country in 1657 and was the only Poindexter to establish a family here before the late nineteenth century. The Poindexters were originally from the island of Jersey.
