Dear group;
I've found the brothers of Emily Poindexter and confirmed her father's name as John Joseph Poindexter or Joseph John Poindexter, born in Virginia 1782-1783. The brothers of Emily Poindexter Dunlap were: William J. Poindexter b. 1806, VA; Christopher Columbus b. 1809, VA; and Raleigh W. b. 1811, VA. The likely sisters, based on all three brothers naming daughters these names were: Martha, Mary and Lucy--possibly short for Lucretia.
I'm still looking for the wife of John Joseph Poindexter and marriages and children for Emily's sisters, who were all born between 1814-1831. Based on the census records, John Joseph Poindexter's wife was born in 1789/90, and they were married in Virginia in 1805.
