I have a John Poindexter, Jr. b. 1728 son of John Poindexter b. 1703 and Christian Gissage Anderson b. 1702 who would have been the right age.John (the father) was the son of Thomas Poindexter I b. 1675 & Sarah Crawford b. 1666, son of George (Poingdestre) Poindexter who immigrated to America from the Isle of Jersey, St. Lo, during Cromwell's time. Elizabeth Castle in St. Lo Parish (a "city" in Jersey) fell to the Roundheads in December 1651.This is also the castle where Prince of Wales Charles stayed during part of the time his father, King Charles was being held by Cromwell.I think that might have been a good incentive to leave since he and his Uncle Jean were involved in the Prince of Wales court.
