Pohlman Immigration and Migration

I'm still at a dead-end with tracking down my Herman Pohlman (see the very first post on this site!). Here's my latest thought: has anyone researched immigration and migration patterns for their Pohlmans? Specifically, could Herman's parents have arrived in New Orleans, perhaps settled there a while, moved upriver to Illinois and ended up there?

The Emslanders.com website (thank you Dolores Rizzo!) lists Johan Herman Pohlman arriving in New Orleans in 1856 on the ship "Ocean." He married Catherine Braun in Calhoun co. IL in 1868. This could be connected to my Grandfather. Is anyone researching this family or similar patterns?

Thank you,
Paula
