John, Thanks for your reply. I have learned a little more about a James Poe (b. 1751) He may be my 4th great grand uncle, brother of Jane Poe based on my FTM records. Jane was married to James Massey of Chatham County, NC. Massey was apparently a close friend and one of the executors of Simon Poe Sr.’s will. I have copies of bothPoe and Massey’s wills. James Massey and Jane Poe’s daughter, Sarah was my 4th great grandmother.
Based on information I have received, James Poe after selling his property in Chatham County between 1781-1790, first moved and acquired land in Anson County, NC (near the SC border) before moving on to Alabama. He is listed in the 1800 US census for Anson County NC as James Powe. Nearby is listed a Kader Guin with one female adult and one female child. I am speculating that the woman was Sarah Massey Guin and that she may have either moved with or at least traveled with James Poe (her uncle) from Chatham County since they were “family”.
If you have any information about this James Poe when he was in Anson County NC and possible association with the Massey or Guinfamilies, I would appreciate hearing from you.
Ihave a Jeremiahmarried to a Rachel Poe but believe his last name was spelled as Guin or Gewin. He also was one of the Guin clan that moved from the Anson NC/ Chesterfield SC area to Alabama. Information provided by other Guin researchers state that Jeremiahlater married a Rebecca Oats
