Just thought I would see if anyone has anything new on my Poes .I am primarily researching the Poes that seem to spring up in the 1772 time period in Chatham Co NC area . They are found near Siler City NC ,I refer to them as the Siler City Poes.The first one that seems to find himself there is Benjamin.This Benjamin is the rev war Benjamin born in 1749.Then John ,William ,and Charles are found listed in Brooks list for the NC militia. Records for John are found associated with the Bear Creek area,nearby on Loves Creek is William.This seems to be the William that married Elizabeth Bray.later John has gone to Wilkes, and William and Elizabeth to Surry,and are found there with grown Poes that appear to be their children ,Henry (mentions being born in Culpeper in 1758 in his rev war record) Edmund ,Elizabeth(married James Masters in Surry in 1793).There is a Mathias ,(probably named for Elizabeth Bray Poes nephew Mathias) a daughter Hannah ,a son Raliegh and a son John.I think perhaps that they left a son behind in Chatham Co ,or perhaps he left and came back ,this is William who is my ancestor he is found after William has migrated to surry and John to Wilkes , living in the same areas as that of John on Bear and william near LOves Creek they all shared neighbors,the William Poe who died in 1799 left an estate many who bought items at his auction were associated with the older William and John.When William died leaving widow Susannah,with about 6 children who are found with her on the 1800 census for chatham Co.These children are the correct age to be John W Poe ,Jeremiah Poe,Matilda Poe ,(married Perry Thrift) sealy Poe that married an Osborn.These people all grew up near this very area.John W POe married Elizabeth Rains who lived across the line in Randolph Co and Jeremiah married Hannah Doan, this is all just my findings none is proven this is what my research shows.
I think that the John Poe of Wilkes (who has a son William ,and either a son Lindsey or a grandson Lindsey who is found near him ) is a brother to the William who married Elizabeth Bray.These two men lived very near each other William in Surry and John across the line in Wilkes.It seems that all fo William and Elizabeths family migrated to the area of Wilkes that became Ashe Co and there stayed.It looks like William died in 1812.I am not so sure perhaps the John who migrated to Wilkes had a son John also.
I believe that William and John are the same ones that are found in Culpeper records with William and lydia.I am sure that William is probably their son ,suspect John may be also ,however he may have been a cousin,who grew up with Wiliam .They seemed close most of their lives however.It is interesting how many of these Poes migated to Indiana.at least my John W Poe did as did Jeremiah,and Lindsey.To make a long story short these are the Poes that interest me and I am looking for any information re these men .
