Two Reuben Poes in 1800s in Chatham Co.
There were two Reuben Poes in Chatham Co., NC in the early 1880s.One died about 1848 leaving a son Clarence. My Reuben died about 1833.According to the censuses he was born about 1766, making him too old to be Stephen Poe's (1759-1824) son as some researchers have suggested. He had several children including Elisha (b. 1787), Ransom C. (b. 1797) Joseph, Nancy (b. 1791) and at least two other daughters, one married to Crispen Straughan and the other to Joel Horton. One of the Simon Poes sold him 50 acres abutting land owned by William Poe, Jr., Robert Thompson and James Stewart in 1790.Can anybody connect him to parents?
