Rufus and Lydia (Bartlett) Plummer may have been m. in China, ME but they lived in Palermo [then Great Pond or "Sheepscot Great Pond"] at the outlet below the pond, which is now Sheepscot Lake. They lived with her father, Jonathan Bartlett who had come from Ballstown [part of which is now Jefferson and part, Whitefield].Jonathan came about 1787 and built a mill here at the outlet. He would never give a deed to his sons'in law for the portions of land they settled. The dispute between Rufus Plummer and Daniel Hutchens was over the rift in the family. This all has to do with the Proprietors trying to charge the settlers for land they thought they owned. Some wanted to hold out against the Proprietors and some wanted to settle.More can be found in "Liberty Men and Great Proprietors" by Alan Taylor, published for the Institute of Early American History & Culture, Williamsburg, VA, by The University of North Carolina Press, Chapel Hill, NC.{I think you can still obtain a copy}.This is very interesting and every descendant should have a copy.
