John,
Just doing a quick look around, I found Samuel Plumley in the SSDI born 11 Dec 1902 (now you have a birth year) and died Nov 1966, last residence, Philadelphia, PA.His SSN was 169-20-8544 if you want to get a copy of his application with the information on it.
Do you have access to the census online? In 1900-1930 Samuel is in the household of his father, Frank L. Plumley and his mother, Martha E("Lizzie",probably Elizabeth)Plumley and with his wife and family in PA, Delaware Co, Upper Darby TWP, Fernwood District.
In 1870 Frank is in the household of his father, George B. Plumley and mother, Rebecca Plumley.Still in PA, Delaware Co, Darby Burrough.
In 1850 George B. is in the household of his father, John Plumley and mother, Mary Plumley. Still in PA, Delaware Co, now Middletown TWP.
So, this would give you:
Grandfather-Samuel Edward Plumley (b1902,PA)
G-Grandfather-Frank L. Plumley (b@1862,PA)
GG-Grandfather-George B. Plumley (b@1833,PA)
GGG-Grandfather-John Plumley (b@1801,PA)
There is alot in books about the Chester Co. and Delaware Co. Plumleys. There were Rev. War Vets from there.I believe they spread there from the original Bucks County, Quaker Plumlys who were large land owners who arrived in the 1600's from England. If you can connect to them, there is even more. The original Bucks Co. family was Charles and Margery Page Plumly.(Note the different spellings: Plumly,Plumley,Plumbly,Plumbley)
I hope this gets you started on your quest.
Regards,
Marti
