Unrelated -- but noteworthy -- There is a book by Henry F. Pedersen titled "Joy" The Life Of Charles Eagle Plume. Charles Eagle Plume died in 1992. He was a lecturer and collector of Native American fine art. He established the Eagle Plume Foundation to protect his collection and provide funds to Native Americans to study art. His family are members of the Northern Cheyenne tribe and still have a store in Colorado. I believe they have a website. Maybe they could be of some assistance on this "Chief Eagle Plume" theory.
Also worth noting -- there was no John DODSON in Jamestown, only a John DODS. Many people have made that error, but it has been accepted family lore that his children changed their name.
