Have now discovered the following:- There is an ELIZABETH PLATTS in the 1851 census born c1837 at Tideswell living at Litton Mill, Tideswell Lodger, aged 14, Spinner of Cotton. She must have dropped the s off the end of her surname at some point as she is listed as a Platt in the BMD marriage entry. I cannot find her father Robert Platts in the 1851 census using any of the info about him in the 1841 census (see below) so perhaps he had died and so had her mother Catharine. Hence the fact she was a lodger?!? From IGI - Elizabeth Platts christened Tideswell 6th March 1837 - father = Robert Platts, Mother = Catharine. She must have dropped the s off the end of her surname at some point as she is listed as a Platt in the BMD martriage entry. There is a Robert Platts living in Tideswell in the 1841 census, born c 1812 in Derbyshire as well as my Robert living in Macc born c 1811. So it looks like they are two different people after all. Unless he was living a split life which is certainly not unheard of! I then looked at Robert Platts on the IGI and found one christened in Tideswell on 19th January 1812 fathers name = Levi and mother = Jane. Explains why Elizabeth went on to call her son Levi perhaps? Hope this makes some sense. I think from the 1841 census the fact that there is a Robert PLATTS b 1812 Derby living in Tideswell as well as my Robert PLATT(?S) b1811 living in Macc I think we are safe to say they are most likely different people and therefore your line and mine are not related (yet anyway!!!!) via this Robert. Only poss is that Robert was living a double life with one family in Tideswell and one in Macclesfield. Happy hunting! Claire Notify Administrator about this message?
