Dear Marilyn,

I agree with the sources posted by Jim. You can see my response under his entry.

Llywelyn the Great was survived by nine children. Determining which children belonged to which mother has been difficult.

Elen ferch Llywelyn is the only daughter that is certainly his legitimate daughter, and Dafydd ap Llywelyn was certainly his legitimate son. Joan Plantagenet is known to be the mother of at least these two.

Gwladus ferch Llywelyn, or Gwladus Du as she is known, was probably his legitimate daughter as well. My reasoning that she was legitimate, aside from the sources Jim listed, is because of the nature of her marriages. Although, this doesn't prove that she was legitimate, being married to two Marcher lords does suggest she was. Some sources say that Joan gave her lands to Gwladus, which also argues for her being a legitimate daughter.

Hope this helps!
