Hi Karen, That's OK....that's what these forums are for.... to help one another out. You know, sometimes it's fun to think about the quirks of fate that affect all of us, and we wonder what would've happened if things were different, but for most of us that's all it will be. Just daydreaming. Although I do know a lady living out here in Australia that found out she was the heir to a fortune that she didn't know about, except that solicitors in England had informed her to look for some records she needed to prove her inheritance. When she found out what she was to inherit, it was a huge surprise. Putting it mildly, it was vast. But that sort of occurrence is as rare as hen's teeth. Those brokers that sell titles are for the most part in the same league as used car salesmen. The titles are generally not worth the paper they're printed on. Unless a writ of Parliament and assent of the Queen is obtained, titles can't be awarded to anyone. It has to be given under Royal Warrant. Then you have the committees which vet the eligibility of the people who apply for titles. Plus the College of Heralds, who vet their eligibility to bear arms. For new titles, it's a lot easier to obtain. That's just done by the Queen's assent to a submission by Parliament, but to obtain a title under abeyance, dormant or extinct, it's like I said. However, what you can do is to apply to have a shield and coat of arms made for you and your family. It'll be a new set of arms, though. Not one previously awarded to someone bearing your name. You can then make it up, with the College of Heralds help, to look how you want it. When you get one made, and stipulate who can use it, you can get the College to write into the legal papers and the Herald's Roll who can use those arms. You can apply for arms with the college online, but most of the work is done by snail mail. I hope you get enough money to buy back your g-grandfather's farm. That would be something worthwhile doing. Even if it was only the size of a postage stamp, it's still family heritage and that makes it special. Good luck. Notify Administrator about this message?
