The sinking of the Lusitania was front page of the Chicago Daily News on Friday, May 7, 1915. In a "Chicagoans on Board the Lusitania" section it mentions in "first cabin" Charles A. Plamondon, machine manufacturer, living at 1344 Astor Street and Mrs. Charles A. Plamondon, 1344 Astor Street. An article states: Mr. and Mrs Charles A. Plamondon of 1344 Astor Street, the former president of the A. Plamondon Manufacturing company, were also on the passenger list. Miss Marie Plamondon, their daughter, told of the trip her father and mother had planned. "Father had to go to England on business. He thought the ocean was safe from submarines, but mother who was staying with her staying with my sister at Newark, NJ, wouldn't let him go alone. She joined him at New York and sailed with him." "They were going to London, thence to Dublin to consult about father's business and then to Manchester, England where he was to direct the opening of work on a large malthouse. They expected to return to America in a month." On the beat with them was a Mrs. Faber, wife of the leading man in the "White Feather" company, now at the Princess Theater.
