My name is Cheryl Pittenger Cone. My father's name is Vance Wilfred Pittenger. His father's name is Frederick Austin Pittenger. Both are deceased. My father was born January 27, 1918, and his father was born August 1, 1873. My father was born at their home 10 miles south of Brookings. We still own part of that property. I believe his father and his father's two brothers came to this area from Wisconsin and homesteaded here. All are buried in the Greenwood Cemetary in Brookings. We live in Aurora, South Dakota - having moved here from Seattle. I grew up in Sioux Falls, but moved to Seattle in 1967, after my father passed away. We moved back nearly two years ago. The Pittenger family reunion is held every summer in Brookings, but we haven't attended yet - not having known about it. My aunt (father's sister) recently passed away in Yakima, Washington, and her Celebration of Life ceremony was held there a couple weeks ago. My daughter and I just returned from there. Both of her parents have passed away - one in 1942 and the other in 1945. Her brother Del passed away in a private plane crash in 1949. An older brother Wayne passed away in 1917 at a year old - following measles or small pox.
I'm in contact with Virginia Pittenger and her elderly mother Dorothy in Brookings. Also in contact with the Cleveland side of the family. Florence Cleveland Pittenger was my father's mother. I've recently talked with Dick Pittenger of Sioux Falls, my father's cousin, son of Budd and Sylvia Pittenger.
Where do you live? Please write back!
