Debbie,

I reviewed the census info you posted. It is doubtful that it is the same James Pitner. My james, as far as I know, lived most of his life in Sevier county, Tennessee. He was born 1842 died 1888. Married to Ellen Thomas. Is supposedly the illlegimate son of a Becky Pitner although I have found nothing to substantiate this claim. James was supposedly raised by a Langston Cunningham and his wife Bersheeba. Currently I am trying to see if I can find any descendants of Langston who may have a clue as to why James lived with the family.

There is an 1862 marriage record for Becky Ann Pitner married to a James Baker. This is all I could find on the mysterious Becky.

Oh well, the search goes on.

All the best,
Keith
