Question on Olive Pitman/Pittman Marriage
Posted by: T Strickland (ID *****7911) Date: January 15, 2009 at 14:18:22
  of 1512

I am searching for any document that would prove who the husband of Olive Pitman/Pittman was, daughter of Thomas Pitman/Pittman. Thomas Pitman's Will 1728 in Isle of Wight lists Olive as his daughter. I have seen many websites that list Olive's husband as Elias Fort, BUT have also seen as many websites that lists Olive's husband as William Strickland,SR. I have searched and searched for a Will of "This Elias Fort" and have not found it yet. I did find reference to a Book 'Southside Virginia Families' by John Boddie that states Elias Fort married Olive Pittman, BUT no actual documentation for this marriage in the book.

I also see that in Thomas Pitman's 1728 Will, a Joseph Strickling was a witness on the Will. This Joseph Strickling/Strickland was the brother of William Strickland in Isle of Wight/Bertie County.

William Strickland did not mention his wife in his 1728 Will however there are many Deeds with his wife "Olive" mentioned in Bertie County during this time period.

My question is: Does anyone have any further documentation/proof of who Olive Pitman/Pittman actually married?
Thank you in advance for sharing any information about Olive Pittman.
