If Walter's parents were John Pitkin and Olive Forbes, then his brother was John Owen Pitkins, b. 02 Dec 1803, d. 20 May 1891. Both were silversmiths and worked in partnership as J. O. & W. Pitkin from 1830 till 1840, when John retired. Theirs was a very properous and well-known firm, employing more than 40 silversmiths. I have a number of pieces marked by both individually and in partnership. I am compiling a single tree of New England silversmiths and have linked, by blood or marriage 116 masters working from 1658 to 1830. I am interested in seeing if there is a link between the Pitkin line and the New York Forbes by way of Olive.
