The reason you did not find your ancestors in Grace Wipple's book is your ancestor's are originally from Germany. Your gggrandfathers father was Gottlieb Pitzer or Peter Pitcher who was born 9 Dec 1757 Saxoney region of Germany. He apparently emigrated as a young man to Johnstown, NY where he married Mary Pedrick. He died in Volney, NY. This taken from Ancestry.com under George Washington Pitcher. My gggrandfather was also George Washington Pitcher born Abt. 1805 CT and moved to Bradford Co., PA around 1820. He of English decent. I have been asked many times if they were the one and same. Many of the Pitcher's in upstate NY derive from Andrew Pitcher who came from England about 1633. There are also Dutch/German Pitcher's who settled in Dutchess Co., NY. I hope this gives you some direction.
