You have to find out where in England he came from. Where did you find out he came from Norwich. Have you tried searching his children's birth certificates? Sometimes you just could get "lucky" and it might list where the parents were born. Have any idea when he married? That too might list it. Same thing for the Census records.

I checked the LDS IGI site and there is an entry for a William Pitcher born about 1841 in Docking, Norfolk, not Norwich. Could this be your gggrandfather? There is an Ancestral File on this family. I think this is Shaun Pitcher's line. Maybe you should contact him.
