Hi Chris,
My maiden name is Coddington. My paternal grandfather was English a decendent of Stockdale Coddington. This will probably mean nothing to you but is important to any Coddington. There are two major families of Coddingtons in England and that is how our family was traced. The other Coddingtons were from England but migrated to Australia first then to the US. Mine came directly here shortly after the Mayflower. They initially settled in MA and then RI. After that onto NJ and then Ulster County NY. My grandparents were the first generation to come to CT.
My paternal grandmother was a Sullivan (Irish-hehehe!!). Her parents left Limerick, Ireland about 1885 and came to NY and settled in Mamaroneck. They stayed in Westchester county all their lives.
My maternal grandparents were the Bujnovsky's (Budnofsky)of Gromos. Although they were Slovaks my grandfather was officially born in Hungary and my grandmother in Austria. Her maiden name was Honzelko. They came here about 1906-07 and both moved to Bridgeport were they were introduced and married. So the web does continue to grow!!
I do know where the Sikorsky plant is in Stratford and I seem to recall my father speaking of a Sikorsky. I never put the two together but I guess that land was owned by them before the helicopter plant was established. You gave me an interesting fact, thanks!!
I remember that George Pistey was married and had a large family. I have no clue as to why he stayed with my Aunt and Uncle for a while unless he and his wife were having problems. I have my grandmother, Anna Coddington's death certificate and the funeral home was Pisteys in Bridgeport. George signed all the necessary papers and that was in 1951. I can't remember much about the flower shop but do know they owned one and it was either in Bridgeport or Stratford. I will have to ask my Mother if she remembers anything about it. She is in her mid 80's and her mind is not as sharp as it used to be. All the other Aunts and Uncles are gone now. Too bad I didn't start this ancestry business when they were alive.
Hope that gives you a little more info and please contact me again if you remember anything. If you have any info on Sullivan's that would be of great interest to me. I am still trying to find the year my Great grandparents died and where in Westchester they are buried. Have hit a brick wall!!!
Thanks again for your response and hope to hear from you again.
