Sarah Oldham Pirtle - Byrum Harrell VA & IN
Posted by: Mary Harrell (ID *****9409) Date: August 25, 2002 at 10:03:29

Would like to figure out who Sarah "Sally" Oldham Pirtle was. She married Byrum Harrell of Wythe Co., VA c. 1816 and they moved to Shelby County Indiana. They had children -- the 1st 4 born in VA & the others in IN: Sidney Ann, Mary J, Henderson H, Granville Sidney, Matilda, Elizabeth, Sara (possibly) & (Andrew possibly). Sarah/Sally died August 20, 1836 in Shelby County Indiana. Byrum returned to VA, this time to Smyth County, where he married second wife on June 11, 1837 Sarah "Sally" Hubble. They returned to Shelby County Indiana where they had additional children.

Sally Oldham Pirtle may have been a Sarah/Sally Oldham who married a Pirtle. The name Sidney occurred twice which seems to be a clue of some sort (daughter Sidney Ann & son Granville Sidney).

Any idea who Sally was or where she & Byrum lived & married in VA? Byrum was thought to be a minister in the Christian Church & may have traveled or lived other places than Wythe & Smyth County, Virginia. Thanks for your help!
