Charles Elmer Pippin
CEDAR BLUFF – Mr. Charles Elmer Pippin, age 82, formerly of Gate City and
Richlands, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at a Lebanon hospital, following
a lengthy illness.
Born in Scott County, Va., he was the son of the late Robert and Cora Kent
Pippin. He was a retired service manager for Par Gas & Suburban Propane of
Richlands. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the
Nottingham United Methodist Church at Gate City. In addition to his parents, he
was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Hurley Pippin.
He is survived by one daughter, Debbie Lester and husband Danny of Cedar Bluff;
one son, Larry M. Pippin of Florida; two grandchildren, Chelsey Lester and Cody
Lester of Cedar Bluff; one brother, Robert (Shorty) Pippin and wife Myrtle of
Big Stone Gap.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Singleton
Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, with Rev. Bill Porter officiating. Burial
will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Military
graveside rites will be conducted by Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640 and Tazewell
County Chapter 31 DAV. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may
call from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff.
