My great grandfather was born out of wedlock about 3 months before his parents married.Gt Grandma Emma Brearley registered her son as Herbert Pipes Brearley,but after the marriage he was known as Herbert Pipes.Emma married George Pipes in May 1845. I sent for the certificate on the off chance that Herbert Brearley could have been Herbert Pipes and voila.He was born in 1844 and registered March 1845,he died in 1923 and married twice to Hannah Fox,my great grandma, and Mary Ann Sladen after Hannah's death in 1883.He had two families.
