I'm a pinto too, of brahmin ancestry.. and my family last name before becoming a Pinto was Kudvai. Mothers side is Alva, and before becoming Alva was Bhatt.
But we are mangalorean Pinto's.. i.e. moved from Goa when the portugese started enforcing european customs on the locals, and those that refused to comply moved out to Mangalore along with the hindus..
