Pinnell - Irish connection?

Does anyone know the origin of the name. My son in law, Douglas Pinnell traces his to Ireland. His grandma is Irish, from Ulster. Perhaps in that context, maybe some of the French who fought for King Billy, (William of Orange) and were given land as payment for their services, settled in Ulster. Anyway, his branch of the Pinnell's are located in Ontario, Canada.
