Brian,
I am a member of Yahoo's Calvert_Genealogy. One of our goals is to distinguish which Calvert family our members is a part of. Right now we have approximately half a dozen members who are related to Pinnell family out of PA.All of the Pinnell's were Quakers, and apparently all came from Chester Co area. However, a few also came from Delaware before moving to PA. In the 1740's they moved to Virginia around Frederick Co. and set up Quaker settlements. When Virginia split and part became
West Virginia, a lot of Pinnell's ended up as West Virginia
residents.
I have been researching the Pinnell (and variant spellings) family that settled in Accomack Co., VA in 1646. Two brothers, John and Thomas, arrived in Accomack Co. in 1646 aboard the ship "Honour." John remained in Accomack and raised his family.Thomas, however, decided to move to Somerset Co., MD, which was across the state line from Accomack.John had a number children including sons John and Thomas.Thomas of Somerset Co., MD also had a large family including sons Thomas and John. The problem lies in the fact that the two sons of John and the two sons of Thomas were born at approximately the same time.John's son
Thomas moved to the northern part of VA.His son John moved to Isle of Wight and Southampton counties before heading west and moved to North Carolina. (This is my branch). They lived in Granville Co which split and the northern part became Bute Co. which later became Franklin and Warren counties. The Pinnells have lived in Franklin/Warren county area since 1750.
