Pinkston-Turner Connection? Maryland & North Carolina.

My ancestor is William Pinkston Turner b. 1753 in New Market, Frederick Co. Md? d. 1807 prob. N.C. He was in the Revolutionary War & the DAR Registry lists his wife as Action (Acton?) Howard also from Md?
William moved to the the Yadkin River in Rowan Co. where Salisbury now stands then to Jesamine Co. Ky.
William & Acton had: Starling b. 1776-my ancestor, Peter,
James, Joseph, & Polly?(Mary?)
Was William Pinkston Turner named after a family member?
What is the Pinkston connection?
Does anyone have any information on this?
Thanks
