The early Maryland Carroll family was very prominent, a Signer or some such? I think Wm. Pinkston,Sr's father was Richard Pinkstone, if memory serves? Wife unknown. The old 1700's Pinkston, Rowan Co., N.C., lands were just west of Salisbury on old Mocksville Road. Great grandfather (Lutheran) Rev. John Abner Locke Miller wed "little grandma", Mary Ann Pinkston who's father served under Capt. Alfred Alexander Miller, CSA, Locke Miller's father. Her widowed mother, Mrs. Jemima Sloan Pinkston, inherited the over one hundred years old Pinkston farm and log cabin. Widowed, she soon wed the farm hand and died. He got the farm and soon died. The Pinkston descendants went to visit, and the farm hand's children by an earlier wife, told them to get off "their" land. Within a decade, that century of Pinkston land was lost. Thirty years ago, I did see the then abandoned cabin; went up the narrow stairs behind the chimney to the sleeping loft where likely my Pinkston ancestors were concieved and born. A Deist, I thank God for that gift left me; to trod where they once trod; to espie once again, the hearth that once gave them heat and food to eat. Jim, Southport, N.C. P.S. I wondered if the English Pinkstones were once German Rosenstiens (as Redstone is to Rubenstine)?
