I have read all posts in this forum and may be of help to Sandy Taylor or Stephen Hull. The 1850 Census of Clay Co., IN includes Geo. PINKLEY familiy: Geo.35, b.SC; Rebecca,39, b. KY and their children Henrietta, Priscilla, Samuel, Elizabeth, Tabatha ranging in age from 2 to 15 + Benjamin PINKLEY, age 20. The same census includes a Willson PINCKLEY, 34, family group living in Posey Twp. with Martha (RINGO), 24; Susan, 10; Ann, 7; Elizabeth, 3 & Sarah Belle, 1. Watch the spelling.....of this surname...... Coles Co., IL marriages includes that of Wilson PINKNEY & Mary Jane Martin, 17 Aug. 1837. 1840 census shows Wilson PINKNEY with wife (Mary Jane)age 20-30 and 1 F child under 10. Clay Co.,IN marriages includes that of Robert PINKLEY and Martha Ringo on 23Jun1846. The IGI Add. indicates that Robert Pinkley, b. 1819 and Martha were the parents of Elizabeth C.b.,1847, Sarah Belle, b. 1849 and William, b. 1851. In 1853 a guardianship estate was created in Coles Co. for Susannah and Sarah Ann PINKLEY, indicating their parents died. Sarah Ann, m. William Henry Reed in Moultrie Co., IL in 1859 and I am a great-grandson. Sarah Ann, d. in 1879 in child birth. Before her death she told her children she was proudly related to Charles Cotesworth Pinckney who the family presumed was a signer of the US Constitution and candidate for VP of the US 1800 & President in 1804 & 1808. Many Pinkney descendants attempted to find Sarah Ann but failed probably due to the spelling of her father's name which turned out to be PINKLEY v. PINKNEY. After several years of research the above detail finally got through to my brain and in addition I learned that at least in the Martin family Wilson's name is recorded as PINCKNEY. Now I am not sure who I descend from but I will not be surprised if great-grandmother was correct when she named one of her twin sons, Fred PINKNEY Reed. Joseph Reed Williams of Helena, MT
