Pinelli in Marsicovetre

My grandmother was Maria Pinelli. She was born in Marsicovetre, Basilicata in 1890, the only daughter of Giuseppe Pinelli and Ann Suttarelli. She had 4 brothers: John, Tony, Frank and Harry.

All relocated to the Federal Hill section of Providence, Rhode Island, USA in the 1890s.

Maria married Loretto LaNinfa in Providence in 1908. Loretto was the son of Nicola LaNinfa and Maria Pescosolido of Arce, Italy.

Here's where it gets sticky...
John Pinelli's wife, Angie, insisted that the 'American way' to pronounce Pinelli was Benel. (! --I have no idea.. Don't we all have at least one nutty aunt lurking about?)

She changed her and John's name, and the two little brothers traveling with them, Frank and Harry.

Tony retained his true name (he throught Angie was nuts.. ;-) as did Giuseppe, Ann and Maria. As an adult, Harry used Pinelli. Frank died as Frank Benel. John and Angie and their children/grandchildren are Benels.

Maria and Loretto left Federal Hill in 1915 and raised their 9 children in Attleboro, Massachusetts (which at that time was) a rural area about 12 mi NE of Providence, RI.

Does any of this info match up with yours?
