Looking for Pineda's from Dominican Republic

Looking to retrace the origin of the Pineda family from the Dominican Republic on back. Possible origin would be Spain or Portugal as explorers (and the Pineda name) ventured westward across the Atlantic - First the Carribean then onto the now American continent; this must explain the existance of the pineda name in Cuba, Central and South America, Mexico and the Philipines...

Any help would be greatly appreciated
