Hello George
Well , I don’t understand why you are so angry with me, I see that your direct e-mail is more hard that the yrforum equivalent message. The forums are made for we discuss ideas and questions, and I put my point of view and was very happy for you reply, now we (all) can start an good discussion about the origins of Pimentel Surname.
First , and for all you, known, I ´m notJewishbut also I´ m not Catholic !( but myoriginsare), so I can study the subject without preferences or tendencies , because for me is indifferent if Pimentel haveornothave a Jewish origin.
Second I´m Portuguese of the Nord and I know very very well the origins of luso-galaicolanguage, and I know the History oforigins (Lusitanea etc). It is my Hobby.
I will like give, for our discussion, a lot of facts , and I will appreciate that you after, contest , add something , tell me that I m in error, or even give me other facts that make my theory absurd or that confirm . and my facts are :
1-I don’t know in Bible that speak about pimenta´. If you know tell me please .
2-The word pimenta ( portuguese / galego) or pimienta (castelhano) comes from the latin Pigmenta ( the plural of pigmentum ) that means painted , colored, but pimenta d´ont come from the greek(helenic) peperi( ?????? ) or the latin piper words that gives origins to the English pepper,French poivre, serv-croat papar, irish pipur , etc..etc.etc..
3- I know that the vegetable in question is already known before the romanization of the peninsula Iberia. In semitic and persian languages the name was felfel or pelpel
Bal´ami wrote before 974 BC “va in felfel az zamin-e Hendustan borand, anja va hame jahan,”that means “and this pepper bring from land of Hindustan for you and all the word”
4- I know also that the in old Egipt they don’t know the pepper, but the greeks know , like we can prove from the poem of Eubulo book in 375 BC.
5- I know also a lot of things of Pimenta but I cannot discover noting about the link betweenPimenta and Pimentel , note that are an surname in Portugal more usual and with 8 times more people, this name is Pimenta , Mr Pimenta,Mrs Pimentaetc..
6- I know also that first Pimentel known is D. Vasco Martins o PIMENTEL(dead in 1282 ) or the same person D Vasco Martinez Alonso Pimentel , son of Martins Fernandes De Novais (name of the land) and D Sancha Martins . I don’t know other person named PImentel before , even Jew , if you know pls tell me ? Note that this men was the military arm of the king , and the king give him one nobility title and the name Pimentel because they command the army that used a lot of shot-stones-weapons(that I think called pimentels or armentel s but don’t can proved yet) .
7- I know however that there are jews named Pimentel before the inquisition, but I know too that jews already was “personas no gratas” before ourNacionality.
