George Pilkington - Clockmaker(s), Ireland
Is there anyone within the global Pilkington familywho might be able to provide me with information that may lead to a definite link or definite non-link between the clockmaker, George Pilkington, Dublin, and the clockmaker, George Pilkington, Tynan ( County Armagh). There is an assumption among the antiquarian horologists who have written about George Pilkington that they are probably one and the same person. However, what is factually known to date is that George Pilkington was apprenticed to Robert Rigmaiden in Dublin circa 1694.A further reference suggests that he worked in Dublin from 1700 to 1713.Clocks signed "George Pilkington, Tynan" appear from their dials to be mid to late eighteenth century, i.e. 1750 or so.Tracing a link (or lack of) between the young Dublin George Pilkington and what would be a much older Tynan George Pilkington is what I wish to investigate.I would be very grateful toanyone who could give me some insight on this.
Thank you,
