FINALLY found Permenus and Ruth Bradford Pilkington on the 1840 Census, Benton County, Alabama:

1 males 0-5 (Frederick Ross?)
2 males 5-10 (David R. and J. M. or J. W.?)
2 males 10-15 (John Sanford and ??)
1 male 30-40 (Permenus)

1 female 0-5 (Francis M.)
1 female 15-20 (Sarah)
1 female 30-40 (Ruth)

on the same page:

John Pilkington

1 male 20-30 (John, 30)
