Dear Sharon,
I am a direct descendant of the 'Glass' Pilkingtons. My great, great, great grandfather was William Pilkington, born in 1800, who bought a small glassworks in St. Helen's, Lancashire, in 1826, and renamed it Pilkington's Glass Works.William married Elizabeth Boyes in 1824, and he lived until 1872.I don't know how many children William and Elizabeth had in all, but they had a son, George, in 1840, who married Frances Carlisle in 1867.They had 10 children, one of whom, Hubert, was my great-grandfather.George died in 1925.
Credit for this information should not go to me, as I only discovered it recently, from Ralph Pilkington, who has made a number of contributions to this forum. However, if you are interested in information about this line, from Hubert Pilkington to the present, please read my Posting from January 15 2002, entitled 'Pilkington's from Hertfordshire, England', which I can take credit for.I hope this helps.
Best wishes,
Rupert Pilkington.
