I've discovered a Richard Piles who purchased land on Swan Creek in Bedford County, VA (present day Campbell Co.) in 1772 and 1778. He sold it to John Johnson in the 1780's where the deed states he is a resident of Rowan County, NC. He evidently disappears from public records after he sold this land (per Pile research in these counties).
I'm curious about this Richard Piles for 2 reasons -#1: I've been trying to track down the ancestry of a William Pyle/Piles of Frederick County,VA and Jefferson, WV who married Anna Wade whose ancestry goes back to Campbell County, VA. #2: John Johnson, the purchaser, is my gggggrandfather on my father's side of the family.
Do you know anything about this Richard? It's a coincidence of names that's too weird to ignore!
