I am attempting to tie a grand-daughter to her grand-parents via her aunt. The grand-daughter is "Mollie" Mary Ann Pike born January 19, 1870 in Tennessee and died April 14, 1937 in Lamar County, Texas. Her first marriage was to Joe Bethel Long in 1892 in Tennessee with one child, Joe Bethel Long Jr, as a result. Her second marriage was to William Travis Badgett on January 09, 1902 in Lamar County, Texas. They had two children, William and Anne. W T Badgett had two children of his own from a previous marriage, these are Willie and Della.
I have seen it written that "Mollie" Mary Ann Pike Badgett's mother was named Rachel Burkett, but I have NOTHING to substantiate this fact.
The 1910 Lamar County, Texas census shows the Badgett household with all the children. In addition to the regular family members, there is a 70 year old aunt named Catherine Bruce living with the family. Catherine Bruce died on September 27, 1921 in Lamar County, Texas and her death certificate lists her father as George Burckett and her mother as Mollie Covington. The person providing the information on her death certificate is Paul Murdock. Paul Murdock's death certificate lists Catherine Burkett and Carroll Murdock as his parents. The 1920 Lamar County, Texas census shows the Paul Murdock family with his mother, Katherine Bruce, living with them.
From other posters on the forum I have obtained some information about Catherine Burkett's family. I understand that her brother Stephen was married to "Lizzie" Pike. I have also learned that Catherine did have a sister named Rachel Burkett, born April 09, 1856 in Tennessee. And, that Rachel was married in 1880 to Sam Dillard Milligan. Also, Catherine, Stephen and Rachel have numerous other sibling and that their parents are George W. Burkett and Mary Ann Henderson.
I cannot reconcile the difference in Catherine Burkett's mother being Mollie Covington or Mary Ann Henderson. Although I do understand that many "Marys" of the day took the nickname of "Mollie". Also, I cannot find any other marriage for Rachel Burkett that would marry her to a "Pike". I would assume that Rachel's Pike marriage may be to a sibling of her brother Stephen's Pike marriage to Lizzie, so any information on the Lizzie Pike family would be appreciated. Lastly, maybe there is another Burkett sister that is the mother of "Mollie" Mary Ann Pike Badgett and her mother is not Rachel.
If anyone has any information that would help me clarify these relationships, I would be grateful. Thank you in advance for your response.
