Lord Mayor of London-- William Pickett
Hello~
I was hoping that someone knew if there is a photo
or drawing of the William Pickett, Esq. who was Lord Mayor of London in 1789
Family legend says that he is my 5th great grandfather. The following is
from a letter written by a distant relative:
Abbie R. Johnson, Letter, 25 Jun 1931. "My great-grandfather's father was a
Londoner and my great-great-grandfather was Lord Mayor of London early in
the seventeenth century. My great-grandfather came to the United States on a
visit. He decided to stay in America and he married a young Quaker girl by
the name of Sarah Hull. His father was greatly incensed because of his
decision so he disowned him. For that reason there were never any
communications among the family."
Since George Piggot's father disowned him, it has been very hard to prove
this connection.
William erected a tomb on the death of his daughter Elizabeth and in memory
of his five other children who are reported to have died in infancy. One of
these children was George. Is this our George Piggott --- did his father
claim him as dead since he disowned him, or are there actual remains of
these five infants in the tomb?
I would greatly appreciate any information in this matter.
Thanks,
Leslie Ann
