IWAS EXTREMELY INTERESTED IN YOUR QUERY AS I TOO AM A PIGFORD (BEFORE MARRIAGE) AND HAVE JUST STARTED FAMILY HISTORY. MY GRANDFATHER WAS JOHN PIGFORD, WHO IN THE 1901
CENSUS WAS AGED 36 YEARS AND LIVED IN SHINEY ROW, COUNTY DURHAM. HE WAS BORN IN PELTON, CHESTER-LE-STREET, CO. DURHAM AND WAS A MINER. UNFORTUNATELY I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HIS SIBLINGS. MY FATHER JOE WAS ALSO A MINER AND HE WAS BORN 1903, ONE OF ELEVEN CHILDREN.
I LIVE IN THE NORTH-EAST OF ENGLAND WHICH WAS FORMERLY A MINING AREA AND THERE ARE VERY FEW PIGFORDS AROUND. I AM REALLY SURPRISED TO FIND SO MANY IN THE U.S.
I THOUGHT THE CHESTER-LE-STREET CONNECTION MIGHT BE OF INTEREST.
