Hello Joanne,
We have a Pierrepont in our family, He is Francis Pierrepont Barnard. We are trying to find out where the Pierrepont has come from. He was the eldest son of Alfred Barnard who was a solicitor. Francis was born in Norfolk as were his next two siblings, the rest of the family seem to have been born in London. We have a will from Francis'brother Leonard who appears on census as Leonard Girton but in his will as Leonard Pierrepont. Also my husband's(Michael) Grandmother used the name Pierrepont and my own mother-inlaw used Pierrepont-Barnard-Anspach (which we have since dropped. We can only conclude that Pierrepont could have been a close friend of Alfred and that succeeding siblings used it. Do you have any Barnards anywhere? All this of course was in the 19th century. Regarding the Pierreponts coming from France. When we visited the UK some years ago we went to Alfred Docks where we obtained a Pierrepont Lineage. ""It would appear the the Pierreponts did come from Normandy, arriving with William the Conqueror. " (quoted from chart) There were various spelling of the name."" The Manvers family name is Pierrepont and all relevant history can be found in Burke's Peerage. (Pam Anspach )
