Like Nina I am new to the forum but already know a number of you.
I have only started relooking at the Pickup line again in the last couple of months having being stuck for some time but have been able to move thing forward greatly.

I started trying to piece together the family details of Pickups from the 1500's and 1600's and come forward. At the same time I started branching out sideways. The idea was to try and fit as many lines together eliminating them one at a time until I track down my own line and then joined it at the middle.

However if there is enough support for the concept of a one name project then I am willing to get involved with that.

However this would take some thought as to the format of the database, who can add to, amend etc. and how individuals would be linked together. In one sense it is akin to writing a complete genealogy software package.

Some packages have a publish to the web facility but they are not particularly nice. Or a script could be developed to take a GEDCOM file and parse it into web pages. This might be the best approach as it could be customised in whatever format you wanted.

This approach though takes a large amount of work in retyping etc and but is one that you could develop whatever sort of web interface you wanted for the information.

Any suggestions on suitable formats?

Any suggestions on suitable formats?BTW I do not favour web based forums because you have to remember to go back and check for new entries. If we are going to get involved in a Pickup database I suggest that we look at developing other facilities along with it such as an email forum, maps, background info, etc.
