James PICKLES Bradford to America and back!
Hi List,
Can you help my friend Peter determine who James Pickles parents were please?
This is his email forwarded, James ws born c1848 in Bradford and that is where he is stuck. Has anyone come across any immigration records for him even though it seems he returned before 1901 to England?
Thanks Sue.
James Pickles is found in the 1901 census in Tong, Bradford at the age of 53 working as a Plasterers Labourer, that's how I know is approximate year of birth. He married a Grace Hutchinson who is found in the 1881 census (as Pickles) living with family in Shipley (the Gott's) and in the 1901 census living in Tong, Bradford at the age of 54.
The possible reason James Pickles isn't found in the 1881 and the 1891 census is that the family moved to the U.S. That is where 2 of their children were born in 1882 and 1886. It is rather strange that I found Grace with the family but no James in the 1881 census. I think they moved to Pennsylvania and came back to Bradford in 1891-1892 as their last child was born in Bradford in 1892-1893 (according yet again to ages on the 1901 census).
As of yet I don't know if James had any brothers or sisters so I'm stuck with that bit.
If you were wondering how I knew Grace's maiden name, my uncle bought a copy of Anne Eliza Pickles'(daughter's) birth certificate.
Thanks,
Peter.
