More circumstantial information for all of you Pickett descendants. My ancestor was Dr. Robinson L. Chilcoat/Chilcote, b. ~1765 Baltimore Co., MD, died after 1820.He was the son of Robinson Chilcoate Sr. christened1740 Western Run, Baltimore, MD - St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He in turn was a son of John Chilcote b 1717 Somerset, Eng - was imprioned at some point and sent to Barbados, from there he came to Maryland.Robinson Sr.'s mother was Margaret Robinson.
According to many many postings, Robinson Chilcoat Sr's wife was Ann Amy [Amelia?] Heathcoate who was b. abt 1743 in Baltimore Co., MD.The migration patterns of the Chilcoate family matches some of the migrations of the Picketts. [i.e., first to Bedford and Huntington Counties of PA, later to Hocking & Athens Counties in Ohio, and Dearborn/Switzerland counties of Indiana. Other families who lived nearby the Chilcoat's in all of these places were Drake, Justice/Justiss, Hanna/Hannah, Wright, Lane/Lain and Robinson and others.
Dr. Robinson L. Chilcoate had a brother named Heathcoate Chilcoate and he had a number of nephews named Heathcoat/Hethcote Chilcoate, thus giving some credance to the postings that Robinson's mother was a Heathcoat.Robinson Sr. had other brothers and there was no "Heathcoat" name in his brothers lines, only in his descendants, thus further indicating that his wife may indeed be a Heathcoat.
Robinson Chilcoate Sr. & Amy Ann Heathcote had all of their children in Maryland, but then the family moved to Bedford Co., PA during the Revolutionary War or shortly after. Some say that Robinson Sr. died in a British Prison camp during the war, others say he came to PA.Regardless, his children and wife do appear on the PA records after about 1783. Robinson Sr. & Amy Ann Heathcoate's children [not in order] were: John [had a son Heathcote], Benjamin, James married an Ensor [had a son Heathcote], Joshua [had a son Heathcote], Robinson L., Nichodemus, and Humphrey.
Doctor Robinson L. Chilcote [Jr.], b. Baltimore Co MD 1740 , married Elizabeth Wright, dau of John Wright and Jemima Hendon who were also of Baltimore Co.originally, but the Wright family also moved to Bedford/Huntindon Co PA
1790 Huntingdon Co PA, Robinson [L] Chilcote 1 male over 18 [himself], 3 females [wife and daughters susannah and Jemima], on same page with John & Abraham Wright, Benjamin Chilcote, Abraham and Samuel Lain [Lane], John Robison, McCune's, McKrackin's. George Picket in adjacent Bedford Co. and some other Pickett elsewhere in PA
1800 in Huntingdon Co PA.Robinson [L} Chilcote 26-45, wife same, 1 m 0-10, 5 f 0-10, 1 f 10-16. Same page is his mother, Ann Kyler 45+ [she remarried to John Murray after Robinson Sr. died, then remarried again to ? Kyler/Kiler/Keller].Many of Robinson L.'s brothers and cousins were living nearby. Abraham Wright and George Wright were also living in that county.
1810 Randolph Co VA [WVA](as Dr. Roberson Gilcoat), 45+ wife same, with 2 males and 4 females at home. Nearby are his daughters and their husbands: William & Susannah Chilcote Burns, George Corrick and Jemima Chilcote Corrick. Also in Randolph Co VA were: Joseph Hannah, George Lentz, John Robuson, a whole bunch of Stalnaker's [misindexed as Statuaker], Bazel Wright, William Wright
1820 Dearborn Co IN, with his son Benjamin Chilcote also listed in Dearborn Co IN, and younger son Samuel still living with him.In adjacent Switzerland co is Heathcote Pickett. In Dearborn Co are Dillard, Jesse, Robert and Benjamin Drake and Morton Justice. Morton Justice was b. abt 1788, served in the Maryland Militia in the War of 1812. He consistently indicated that he was born in Delaware, but must have been in MD by 1810.Justiss/Justice families in MD in 1810 included: Ezekiel, William, Ann, Claudius, Elisse.Other Drakes, Picketss, and Justice's in Wayne Co IN in 1820.the History of Moore's Hill, Dearborn Co IN indicates that Morton Justice was one of the early residents who came from Maryland with Adam Moore, founder of Moore's Hill. It says: "Adam Moore had established a grist mill on his farm and Morton Justice and his brother had started a cannery and shoe boot factory."Morton Justice laid out the town of Manchester in Dearborn Co.In 1820 in Hocking Co OH are Jesse and Nicholas Justice and Archibald Drake [not sure if related to the Drake's in Dearborn].In adjacent Athens Co are James and Samuel Pickett and B. Franklin Drake. There is a Robinson Chilcote in Perry Co. OH, 1st cousin to Robinson L. Chilcote[pretty close to Athens and Hocking] on the same page with Joseph Picket. There are some other Chilcote's in Wayne Co Ohio.
Dr. Robinson L. Chilcoate married Elizabeth Wright, daughter of John Wright and Jemima Hendon in PA and had their first two daughters, Susannah and Jemima there by the 1790 census.By 1800, they were still in Huntindon and now had 1 son and 6 daughters. These were: Benjamin, and additional daughters Permelia/Amelia, a daughter Cynthia, and a daughter Mary. [Sometime between 1800-1807 they moved to Randolph Co VA [now West VA] where they had son Samuel Robinson Chilcoate and another daughter Nancy. I'm still missing the id on one dau. Their daughter Susanna Chilcoate married William Burns in VA, their daughters Amelia/Milly and Jemima married 2 Corrick brothers, Frederick and George in Randolph VA.Daughter Mary married Thomas Tilton in Dearborn Co. IN, and it looks like dau. Cynthia aslo married Wm. Stevens in Dearborn as their oldest child was born in IN before they moved to Hocking Co OH.Dau. Nancy married Aaron Ankrom in Hocking Co OH.
In 1830 all of Dr. Robinson L. Chilcoate's known children, except Benjamin, were in Hocking Co OH.I don't find Benjamin or his parents. There are Drake, Justice, Lane etc families in Hocking/Athens and Ross counties in Ohio from then on.
Just thought I would share -
