PICKETT, MERCER, CARVER, OLDHAM
Several years back I found this as item 3411 in a copy of the 4 Apr 1932 Boston Evening Transcript Genealogical column. So far, all of the records that I have found seem to back up what this writer said. I would like to confirm all that was written, if I can. My other questions are the same as K. G. F. had.
"MERCER, CARVER, PICKETT, OLDHAM - - - Can anyone give the parentage of Thomas or Jane MERCER, possibly of Virginia? They are parents of Carver MERCER born 21 Nov 1775, died 26 Mar 1834, married first Betsey PICKETT 19 Nov 1801, had three children Robert Watkins MERCER, George Watkins MERCER and Martha MERCER. This wife died 9 Feb 1809 and 26 Nov 1809 Carver married in Louisville, KY, Winfred Neville OLDHAM, daughter of Samuel OLDHAM and Ann LIPSCOMB. Their children were Eliza Jane MERCER married Edmond THOMAS, Harriett MERCER, Levi MERCER, Amanda MERCER, John Madison MERCER, Thomas Clifford MERCER married Catherine Laurette ORVIS, Julia Ann MERCER maried Claudius DUVALL, Worden Pope MERCER, Henry Oldham MERCER married ? WRIGHT, James Thomas MERCER and Carver MERCER born 1830. I am especially anxious to know how the name CARVER came into the family. It has been repeated so many times. - - - K. G. F."
