Preservation on a tin type help

Hello-

I have a tin type (No worries on current oxidation, YET) that my husband just got from a Civil War re-enactment. He just had it done, and I told him to leave it in the plastic until we figure out how to preserve it from further oxidation. I would like to get it framed, and I prefer to DIY instead of going to Micheals or someone professional. I tried looking through this forum for such information, and perhaps I missed it? I appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Keittää
