Are you talking dinner & a movie..then I don't think we can help. As far as dating there are a number of books and websites that can help...google is your friend. The type of photo, the style of dress, the name of the photographer can all give you ranges of dates, but getting the exact date is near impossible unless someone else has the same photo and it was written on it.
So is it a cabinet card, CDV, tintype, ambro...?
