I actually have a great deal of experiance in this matter. Now that I have not scared you off, I will give you suggestions. What I wan't sure if the unknowns were related. Some will not be but it makes it soooo much easier when they are.I think you will have the time of your life!Enjoy!
Try to make up a committee of some of your relitives.I had someone help me and that made all the difference. It also helped that I think she was a bit smarter and much better at picking out features than I.I am pretty good but she was great.I will say practice makes perfect. She had already done a box so her skills were far better honed. As a team we were nearly unstoppable.
It is amazing what you can pick up from photos.I now believe my gg-grandmother was diebetic as was her daughter. Both died early. Both after child birth.I sa a picture of my g-grandmother looking like an old hag with a baby in her arms.I thought the label was incorrect because I have a picture of her years later looking young and beautiful.I discovered the label was most likely correct since it was labeled by the baby when he was grown. That got me thinking... that her daugher was diebetic and her dad lived way too old to have any problems. That line all died in their mid 90s.I have learned a great deal about my family from the photos. On that side I have all my ggg-grandparents.What is the most creepy discovery that after so many generations of my ancestors not looking like them, my son and a neice are dead-ringers for that side.My niece is a spitting image of that gg-grandmother's niece. That is the most amazing thing I have learned or saw in genealogy. How the looks can skip many generations and be a replicate.I also have a 'twin' of someone barely related to me.His sister is a researcher. She claimed her brother looked like someone I looked like. The killer was his photo could have been me.The guy even had a calic in the same place I do.We are both blonde but our skin does not burn. This is all too much to believe.
As you start filling in the blanks you will begin to figure out in most cases who is related to who.Things will start to click.
